*The following tests give an early indication of athletes that might advance quickly in the sport. The expected numbers listed are used as a guideline based on experience and cumulated recruiting data but are not neccesarily required.*

Possible tests to be performed at Recruitment / Talent Identification Camps are as follows:

Test

 Description

30m Sprint

Athlete sprints from a 2 point standing start.  There is a 1m acceleration zone at the start.  This is one of the most important tests we do, and gives a great indication of the athlete's ability to accelerate over a short distance.  Sprint testing is typically administered on tartan track surface.

Entry Level:      3.90-4.05s (Men) / 4.40-4.55s (Women)

Development:   3.75-3.90s (Men) / 4.20-4.40s (Women)

World Cup:       3.60-3.75s (Men) / 4.00-4.20s (Women)

Olympic:           3.45-3.60s (Men) / 3.92-4.00s (Women)

Flying 30m Sprint (60m)

Athlete sprints at their top speed through a 30m distance.  This is usually done in conjunction with the standing 30m sprint in order to ensure athletes are hitting the timing eye at their top speed.

Entry Level:      3.30-3.50s (Men) / 3.65-3.80s (Women)

Development:   3.10-3.30s (Men) / 3.55-3.65s (Women)

World Cup:       2.90-3.00s (Men) / 3.40-3.55s (Women)

Olympic:           2.75-2.90s (Men) / 3.25-3.40s (Women)

Vertical Jump (m)

Using either a Vertex, Myotest or simple wall measurement, the athlete will stand with both feet together, squat and jump upwards, reaching as high as possible to obtain the highest vertical distance (minus the athletes standing reach height).

Entry Level:      28-32inch (Men) / 19-23inch (Women)

Development:   32-34inch (Men) / 23-25inch (Women)

World Cup:       34-36inch (Men) / 25-27inch (Women)

Olympic:           37-43inch (Men) / 28-32inch (Women)

5 x Double Leg Bound (m)

With both legs together, the athlete will take 5 continuous jumps forward.  The cumulative distance is measured from the heel of the back foot, after the 5th landing.

Entry Level:      11-12m (Men) / 9-10m (Women)

Development:   12-14m (Men) / 10-12m (Women)

World Cup:       14-15m (Men) / 12-13m (Women)

Olympic:           15-17m (Men) / 13-14m (Women)

20M Sled Pull (15kg)

The athletes will pull a 15kg weight through a 35m zone.  We will time them for the remaining 20 m of the sprint.  This is a great test for power and speed.

Entry Level:      2.80-2.90s (Men) / 3.30-3.55s (Women)

Development:   2.70-2.80s (Men) / 3.10-3.30s (Women)

World Cup:       2.50-2.70s (Men) / 3.00-3.10s (Women)

Olympic:           2.35-2.50s (Men) / 2.80-2.95s (Women)

Additional tests that may be conducted during National Development Camps are as follows:

 Test

 Description

Front Squat
(1 Rep Max)

With the bar resting on the athletes shoulders with a clean catch grip, the athlete will descend to the point where the top of their thigh is parallel to the ground.

Power Clean
(1 Rep Max)

Athletes will be required to complete a full clean, from the floor, control and rack the bar on the shoulders.

Bench Press
(1 Rep Max)

The maximum bench press test gives us an idea of the athletes upper body strength and an indication of their overall development.

Single Push Test (Calgary only)

The single push test is where the athlete pushes a Skeleton sled in the Ice House. Each test conducted gives us information as to which athletes may be most successful early on in the on-ice competition push-starts.

*Based on the facilities and the athletes in attendance, some tests may not be conducted.
