| BACKGROUND:
One of the newest members on the Canadian Women’s Skeleton Team, Carla Pavan is already demonstrating the confidence and composure of a wily veteran.
Carla made her World Cup debut in February 2004 in Altenberg, Germany, but competed in her first full season on the World Cup in 2005-2006 where she got off to blistering start while sliding to a personal best fourth-place finish at the second race of the World Cup tour in Lake Placid, USA. Carla built on this achievement by winning a gold medal in the next race in Igls, Austria.
One of the most promising members of the Canadian team to carry the torch beyond 2010, Carla continues to climb her way to the top of the international standings. During the 2007-08 season, Carla had two podium finishes en route to finishing sixth in the Overall World Cup standings.
Prior to pursuing a career in skeleton, Carla competed in the hammer throw from 1995 to 2002, and was named to the 2001 World University Games team that traveled to Beijing, China. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from the University of Lethbridge, and worked five years in management for a grocery supply plant.
